Alice is an absolute joy to be around; she is so friendly and loves people despite her hard life prior to being rescued. She was found emaciated and chained under a lorry abandoned and left to die, her ears and tail had also been cut off but as you can see this doesn’t detract from her beauty. It is common practice in Greece to cut off dog’s ears as according to them it makes them hear better! Once she was rescued she has spent 2 years in a Greek animal shelter with the rescuers doing their best to care for her and hundreds of other dogs, poor Alice was overlooked for 2 years until we decided to take her in.
The journey from Greece to the UK took 3 days by road, but despite this she is perfectly comfortable in the car. As soon as she arrived she has taken everything in her stride, for a dog that has never lived in doors you’d think she’d lived in a house all of her life! We were expecting to toilet train her but amazingly she hasn’t had any accidents and stands by the backdoor waiting when she needs the toilet! She is a very large dog, between a Labrador and Great Dane size which we know is against in her in finding her a home. However despite her size she is not boisterous indoors and is a big gentle giant. Alice is good on and off the lead; she can be strong on a short lead but is fine on a extendable lead. She is happiest when she is running free off the lead but always comes back to you. She would need an enclosed garden and be happier having an active lifestyle where she can enjoy decent walks, she is learning to play so we think she would flourish in a home with older children and adults. She is also starting to play with toys which she loves. Alice visited a busy Pets at Home store where she laid down and went to sleep, she also had her claws trimmed in the middle of the store and wasn’t phased in the slightest. She is not destructive or greedy and is very calm indoors. However as she loves being with you we don’t feel it would be fair for her to be in a home where she has to be left alone for long periods of time.
Alice is 4 years old, spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and was blood tested for tick-borne and other diseases before travelling to the UK.
Alice would not like to live with a cat.
