Logan - Chained to a barrel for 5 years

Logan's story - told by Joan.

Chained to a rusty barrel by a dried up river, 5 year old Logan (as I named him) was terribly emacitated and losing hair all over his body which was covered in painful sores. You could see in his eyes that he was 'shutting down'. He gace a half-hearted bark when he saw me approach, then stood up watching me with big sad, empty eyes as I went closer and threw bits of dog food close to him. He ate them up hungrily and took a step back, showing me it was safe to come close to him and I fed him the rest of the food from my hand.

He was an owned dog so I couldn't take him there and then, but two days later I brought the vet to check him over and take a blood sample. It was December and snowing and when I looked inside the barrel I saw it had inches of freezing water inside which was why Logan was satndng outside, wet and shivering.

The vet tried to take blood but Logan was so anaemic he couldn't even get a drop from his veins. It was heartbreaking seeing him cold, wet, starving and so thin, all alone in the middle of nowhere, so I unclipped his chain and brought him home and later told the owner why I had taken the dog. He slept for 24 hours solid then started eating and drinking a little, but was not interested in anything else.

After four months of receiving a lot of treatment and nourishing food, his weight was normal and he had a beautiful shiny coat. He has a lovely, happy personality and he just loves his walks and getting lots of hugs and cuddles.

Logan's ex owner showed no interest in him and Logan arrived in the UK in Oct 2011. He now lives with Vesna Jones and her eight other Greek rescue dogs.
