JAKOB

Jakob is a gentle giant. He is a 2 year old redbone coonhound x greek harehound weighing around 30kg. He is kind, curious and has the biggest brown eyes you’ve ever seen, they will melt your heart as soon as you look into them. Having been found at 6 months old as a stray he has spent the last 18 months in a Greek municipality shelter in awful conditions. He was extremely nervous and had no idea how to be a dog. He is improving day by day and in his foster home in Surrey he is coming on in leaps and bounds. He is already actively seeking out company and affection from humans, something he rarely if ever got in his previous life. He loves having his neck and chin rubbed, rubbing on your hand if you dare to stop. The fosterer’s resident hound is teaching him how to be a dog; they cuddle up together in their beds, race around the garden playing tag and play tug of war with their stuffed animals. ⁃ Jakob has been fine when meeting other dogs both on the lead and in secure field settings although can be a little wary at first. He would do well in a home with a calm resident dog to teach him how life should be. ⁃ He has been around livestock and has shown no interest. He currently lives with 2 teenagers and is absolutely fine, however he wouldn’t cope with younger children or a very busy/noisy household. ⁃ He travels well in the car, alone or with another dog although he is still working out how to jump in the car! He is not food reactive but he is nervous whilst eating (when he first arrived he would take a mouthful and then pace looking for potential danger) so he is fed separately to ease his anxiety. ⁃ He can be left at home for a few hours with no issues. ⁃ He is clean in the house and doesn’t chew. ⁃ He walks well on harness or collar. He loves his walks. He is nervous of traffic, although this is improving with every outing. He currently lives in the countryside where his exposure to traffic is limited. He currently has no real recall, and the fosterer has started training him on this. He is quite noise reactive and can be easily spooked which in time should settle. Being a hound, he needs a good amount of exercise each day, and in true hound fashion he loves to sniff and sniff…….He will stay in his foster home until the right home comes along – whoever they are will fall in love with his beautiful brown eyes and awesome personality. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and fully health checked.
