A gift in your Will
Leaving a gift in your Will to Greek Animal Rescue, however large or small, will help us to continue our work helping animals in their time of need. So once you’ve remembered the people you care about, please don’t forget the cause you believe in.
What are the basic pieces of information I need to include GAR in my Will?
Including GAR in a Will is a straightforward, easy and cost-effective way to support our work. It simply involves adding a short paragraph (clause) to your Will. We would always suggest that you use a qualified solicitor to assist you with this. The most important pieces of information to include are our name, our address and our registered charity number:
Greek Animal Rescue
PO Box 336
Woodbridge
Suffolk
IP13 0WR
Registered charity number: 802243
Can I add GAR to my existing Will?
If you already have a Will, it is important that you keep it up to date. Fortunately, making changes to an existing Will is very straightforward.
If you want to add GAR to an existing Will, your solicitor simply attaches a written instruction, called a codicil. This must be done by your solicitor – don’t make changes yourself as you may inadvertently invalidate your Will. The codicil will need the signature of two independent witnesses.
If there are a number of changes you want to make, it may be better to make a new Will, which your solicitor can help you with.
Do I have enough to leave a legacy?
A common misconception is that a legacy has to be an enormous sum of money. This is not the case. Any gift left in a Will, no matter how large or how small, is important to the charities you support.
What kind of gift can I leave?
The three main types of legacies that people leave are: Residuary legacy: Part, or all, of your estate (after debts, funeral costs and pecuniary gifts are paid). This means that, however much your estate is ultimately worth, you ensure your loved ones are looked after as well as giving a gift to your chosen charity. It also means you don’t have to keep altering your will as your circumstances change.
Pecuniary legacy: A specific sum of money.
Specific legacy: A particular item to be used or sold by the beneficiary.
If you would like to remember us in your will, here is some suggested wording for your solicitor:
Residuary gifts
Greek Animal Rescue
PO Box 336
Woodbridge
Suffolk
IP13 0WR
Registered charity number: 802243
to be used for its general charitable purposes, and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
Pecuniary and Specific gifts
I give to
Greek Animal Rescue
PO Box 336
Woodbridge
Suffolk
IP13 0WR
Registered charity number: 802243
the sum of £ amount or specific gift of my item to be used for its general charitable purposes and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
What about inheritance tax?
Leave a legacy in your will and smile because it will be free of Inheritance Tax. It could be the most significant donation you could ever make.
If the total value of your estate is over £325,000 (the current inheritance tax threshold), your beneficiaries will have to pay 40% inheritance tax on the amount over £325,000. This means that if your estate is worth over £325,000, your beneficiaries will only keep £6,000 out of every extra £10,000 that you leave.
Gifts to charities in your will are generally exempt from inheritance tax. If you leave a charitable gift it will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax liability is calculated. For more details we suggest you visit the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). To contact CAF for a free brochure: Tel. 0800 99 33 11 or visit CAF’s website for information on CAF, its work and its services for charities, individuals and companies.
If you would like to calculate what you think you may have left to leave please visit the Remember A Charity website to use their wealth calculator.
Donate in memory of someone special
Donations in memory to Greek Animal Rescue are a positive way to remember a loved one while helping animals in Greece.
Increasingly, people are honouring their loved ones in this way rather than buying flowers for their funeral, or upon the anniversary of their death. Unlike flowers, a donation made in someone’s memory really will live on. It is, for many, a fitting way for family and friends to pay tribute to their loved ones.
To make a donation in memory of your loved one, please download and complete the donation form HERE and return it with your gift to:
Greek Animal Rescue
PO Box 336
Woodbridge

You can set up an online Tribute Fund for donations to be made in memory of your loved one with EVERYCLICK, which is a secure online site that manages donations to charities via Charities Trust. They accept all major credit and debit cards.
You can also speak to your funeral director who may be able to arrange a collection and forward the donations on your behalf directly to Greek Animal Rescue.
